Ma Yim Bakery started, simply enough, with one woman’s desire to bake for friends and family. Throughout her life, founder Sompit Vasey enjoyed cooking for her family and the Thai community.  When she moved from Thailand to the United States, she also left corporate culture behind. Here in St. Louis, she leaned on her prior French pastry culinary training. Her kitchen became a laboratory for testing new techniques and flavors, preparing Asian fusion cuisine or traditional Thai dishes combined with modern pastry making.

In 2016, Ma Yim Bakery was born among potlucks and parties, where guests returned for seconds and thirds. As demand for Chef Sompit’s goodies intensified, word spread and orders multiplied. Before long, Ma Yim Bakery had a following.

Nowadays, Chef Sompit can be found in her commercial kitchen preparing food for orders or showcasing her products at local events and festivals. She enjoys inventing delightful dishes with quality ingredients. The curry puffs, one of Ma Yim’s signature offerings, begins with the traditional Thai dish and imparts French cooking techniques to yield a curry puff that has a delicious crispness with notes of sweet, savory and delicate spices. Ma Yim’s curry puffs are offered in chicken, tofu, and shrimp, along with exciting seasonal varieties.

Ma Yim Bakery believes in giving back to the community, and Friends of Kids with Cancer has benefited from the bakery’s fundraising efforts. For more information about this organization which enriches the lives of children with cancer and blood-related diseases, go to: https://www.friendsofkids.com/
